A Trip to Remember – Captured in a Custom Frame
A special trip deserves a special way to be remembered. At All About Framing, we help transform memories into beautifully framed displays that preserve and showcase your adventures. When our clients returned from an extraordinary three-week journey across British Columbia, Canada, they faced a challenge: how to display a vast collection of incredible photos without losing the essence of their adventure. Instead of selecting just a few to frame separately, they opted for a large multi-aperture design—allowing every moment to shine. Here’s how we made it happen.
About the project
Travelling across BC is a dream for many, and for this couple, it was an experience filled with breathtaking landscapes, thrilling outdoor activities, and unforgettable moments. From the towering peaks of the Rockies to serene lakes and bustling cities, their journey was captured through hundreds of photographs, each holding its own story. Wanting to encapsulate the entire trip, they envisioned a large framed piece that would include all their favourite images, alongside a unique souvenir from their travels.
The Challenge
Balancing Scale and Structure
With so many photos to incorporate, the frame needed to be large enough to accommodate them while maintaining a clean and visually appealing layout. The sheer size of the project meant ensuring structural stability to ensure that it lasts the test of time, preserving the memories without compromising on design or durability. Integrating a Travel Souvenir Beyond just photos, the couple had a special memento they wanted to include—a road sign they had picked up during their travels. Incorporating a physical object alongside printed images required careful design considerations, ensuring the final display was cohesive and visually balanced.
Our Solution
A Custom Multi-Aperture Design

To accommodate the large number of images, we designed a bespoke multi-aperture mount, carefully arranging the photos to create a visually engaging composition. Each picture was placed strategically to maintain harmony, ensuring no single image overpowered the others. Structural Reinforcement for a Large Frame Given the size of the piece, we used jumbo-sized mount boards and a combination of mountboard and foamcore layers to provide stability. To maintain clarity and reduce glare, we selected 3mm Artglass, offering superior optical quality while protecting the photographs from UV damage. A wide oak frame was chosen for its durability and timeless aesthetic, strong enough to support the overall weight while complementing the natural beauty of the Canadian landscapes featured within the display. Adding a Splash of Colour To enhance the design, we took inspiration from the road sign's vibrant yellow hue, incorporating it as a secondary mount colour. This subtle yet impactful detail helped unify the composition, drawing attention to the central aperture where the sign was placed, making it a striking focal point.
The Results
A Unique, Eye-Catching Display
The final framed piece is a stunning representation of the couple’s journey, a true storytelling element for their home. With every glance, they can relive the excitement and beauty of their Canadian adventure, all captured within one seamless display. The combination of high-quality materials, expert craftsmanship, and thoughtful design ensures that their memories are preserved in a way that is both meaningful and visually impactful.
